Predictions and Planning: Content in 2016

It comes as no surprise that content will remain king in 2016. As Julia McCoy, CEO of Express Writers, observed in her recent post for Search Engine Journal, “it’s safe to say content will be every bit as hot as it is right now throughout 2016.”

McCoy also acknowledged that recognition of content as a valuable commodity alone won’t help organizations launch successful content creation strategies this year. To that end, she outlined her “content predictions” for 2016 as well as some tips to help you get ahead of the game in your content planning for this year. Here’s a quick look at two predictions and three planning tips that I thought would be particularly useful to associations.

  • Quality over Quantity: McCoy emphasized the “difference between updating your content because you’re putting out genuinely valuable, useful information, and updating your content because your editorial calendar is telling you it’s that time.”
  • Visual content is going to explode: She also noted that “visual content like infographics and videos a convenient way to pick up information on the go.”

  1. Be versatile. Master different writing styles.
  2. Focus on ideation. Avoid creating homogenized content.
  3. Step up your social media game. Know how to operate and navigate various social media platforms.

None of us has a crystal ball, but it’s important to consider the different trends that appear to be emerging in content creation. Upon doing so, you may be able to adjust or affirm your content plan for this year.
