Rough sleeping in the UK has seen a 165% rise since 2010. Homeless Link, the national membership body for homelessness charities in England, is working hard with its members to end rough sleeping. Homeless Link unifies over 790 organisations that share the same mission – to end homelessness in the UK. The organisation believes that everyone should have “a place to call home” and access to “the support they need to keep it”.

Homeless Link required a new Membership and Events solution to automate the membership joining process, renewal process and to improve reporting”. As Matt Harrison, Director of Social Enterprise explains, effective technology that aids data analysis would help “really transform the events experience for both staff and more importantly for delegates”. Fonteva’s cloud-based solution has helped Homeless Link reach their members and improve engagement. Homeless Link works with hundreds of charities whilst only having one central location in London, Matt describes how technology helps them to interact with members “to understand what they’re doing to understand how we can work with them”. Streamlined communication channels allows the charity to manage member data effectively.

Innovation in technology is key in assisting Homeless Link to achieve their mission; “we try and look at what we can learn from other sectors, other organisations and also come up with some really good ideas ourselves”, says Matt. The charity constantly adapts and creates new methods to improve.

One innovation, by Homeless Link is StreetLink, which enables members of the public to connect rough sleepers to local support networks by inputting their location and contextual information. StreetLink identified that there was a strong desire from members of the public to help rough sleepers, however, people often didn’t know what best to do. They used technology and innovation to find a solution to this problem, focused on what channels members of the public access. All of this is built on the Salesforce platform and fully integrated to support over 66,000 alerts about rough sleepers in the last 12 months.
